The Global Organic Textile Standard requires certification by Certification Bodies, accredited according to ISO 65 including textile certification and, in addition, approval by the International Working Group and conclusion of a contract with it.
Certifiers must at all
times meet the requirements according to Item 4 (Quality Assurance) and
adhere to item 1.4 (Labeling) of the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Certifiers must pay a
fee per calender year (complete or not) per facility/unit inspected and/or
certified ("Annual Fee"). By end of january of each year, they must
submit to the Coordinator a list with names, addresses, production
category and products of the inspected and/or certified operators
together with a report on the relevant activities in the preceding
calender year.
Certifiers must not
certify and/or inspect according to textile standards of their own
beginning one year after first approval.
Certifiers shall interact with each other in order to secure equal application of the Global Organic Textile Standard and report any relevant decisions to the Coordinator. They shall adhere to any decisions on or positive list of allowed chemical input made from time to time by the International Working Group. In particular:
Certifier shall accept
certificates issued in accordance with the Global Organic Textile
Standard by other Certifiers approved by the International Working
Group, in order to conclude final Global Standard certification.
Certifier shall accept
certificates including residue analysis reports issued by other
Certifiers in accordance with the provisions of the Global Organic
Textile Standard (items 2.1, 4.2).
Certifier shall accept
inspection assignments regardless whether they are for the entire
processing chain or only parts thereof.
Certifier shall submit
from time to time upon request by the Tecnical Committee detailed
inspection documentation in order to permit the Technical Committee to
ascertain certifier's adherence to the Global Standard and any
procedural rules and interpretations issued from time to time by the
Technical Committee. The Technical Committee members shall be bound to
treat any of these informations confidentially.
The contractual conditions for certifiers, in cluding those specified above, shall be published on the Global Standard web site in order to enable companies concerned to report to the International Working Group any violations thereof.
