The Synthetic and Art Silk Mills' Research Association organized a gathering of its alumni on 14th October, 2015 in Mumbai, India. The theme of the event was ‘Smart Vision 2020’. GOTS representative in India Mr. Sumit Gupta was invited as an external expert to speak on ‘Sustainability and GOTS Certification for Holistic Growth’. Mr. Gupta spoke about basic features of GOTS as a sustainability standard and how sustainability related research initiatives are vital to holistic growth of textile industry.
He emphasized that the entrepreneurs need to take a top-down approach to sustainability and the top management must adopt sustainable practices as a management approach for long term competitive gains, rather than responding to external demands for compliances and sustainable products. The lecture was much appreciated by the organisers and attendees, which comprised of both industry professionals and entrepreneurs.
GOTS Exhibited at Biofach India together with India Organic 2015, which was held on November 5-7 at the ADLUX International Convention Centre in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. GOTS was also the supporter of the event. GOTS remains pledged to increasing awareness about certified organic textiles and educating about the concerns regarding conventional textile processing. The show witnessed enhanced participation from organic textiles industry in terms of both exhibitors and visitors. GOTS Representative in India Mr. Sumit Gupta was available at GOTS information Booth and explained about GOTS to visitors, which included many retailers interested in adding organic textiles to their portfolios. GOTS participated as an Exhibitor in Heimtextil India, held in New Delhi, India from 25-27 June, 2015. The GOTS information booth witnessed high level interest and a large number of trade visitors. GOTS remains pledged to increasing awareness about certified organic textiles in home textiles. GOTS was also the ‘Knowledge Partner’ for ‘Seminar on Sustainability’, held on 26th June, 2015. The seminar focused on the future of Sustainable Home textiles. It gathered representatives from across India which provided them the opportunity to share their deep knowledge and experiences about the sustainable practices being followed in home textiles sector. The highlight of the seminar was the panel discussion entitled ‘Sustainability from Fibre to Textile – Challenges and Way Forward’ moderated by Mr. Sumit Gupta, which offered a great opportunity for the audience to discuss the issues related to sustainability to further increase their understanding of the subject. In July 2015 GOTS Marketing Director Ms. Claudia Kersten conducted the annual GOTS workshop for the students of the course “M.A. Sustainability in Fashion”, ESMOD University, Berlin, Germany together with GOTS Deputy Technical Director Mr. Sumit Gupta.
The topics discussed included sustainable fibres like organic cotton, organic wool, recycled polyester etc and the eco-friendly processing techniques. Ms. Kersten also spoke about enhanced focus of international brands for organic textiles and the business case for sustainability. Mr. Gupta briefly spoke about some technical aspects with respect to GOTS standard.
In the interactive set up, students asked various questions and raised their points related to sustainability, GOTS, and also learned how they can progress in own respective projects in line with the global sustainability trends.

GOTS Representative for Greater China Felicia Shi presented at the booth in "All About Sustainability Zone" at Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics - Autumn Edition 2015, China. GOTS also led a 1.5 hour seminar about Organic Textiles and Its Certification where firstly Felicia spoke about the overview of organic textiles and its trend, as well as GOT programmes as the comprehensive rules for ecological and socially responsible textile production. Followed by Felicia's speech, Stéphanie DUPAS, Textile Certification Manager for Ecocert Greenlife, and Siwei Yang, Senior Auditor for Control Union China respectively introduced the GOTS certification programmes and its certification procedures, as well as its differences to other standards.
The presentations attracted a large audience and stimulated further enquiries and discussions afterwards at GOTS booth. One participant said, "this seminar provided with a very good opportunity for us to learn the demand and trend for organic textiles and to understand its differences to other standards."
A highlighted observation from this fair was that there has been growing interests and enquires for organic textiles which indicates the further boom in this industry.
