Textile Industry Session in Amity’s National Conference on Sustainable Development Goals, India

Amity University, Noida, India organized a two day National Conference on “Shaping India 2030: Sustainable Development and Socio-economic Perspectives and Challenges” on 23rd -24th March 2017. Mr. Sumit Gupta, GOTS Deputy Director Standards Development & Quality Assurance, chaired the technical session on ‘Textile Industry & SDGs’.

Mr. Gupta explained how sustainability standards like GOTS can be used as a tool by businesses to meet United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He also told that more than 11 SDGs are covered by GOTS and by implementing the standard companies can make meaningful contribution to society and SDGs at the same time. Other speakers in the session included Ms. Mona Gupta – Advisor, Practitioner & Educator; Mr. Vinay Singh- Manager Compliance, RCM Group and Mr. Rajib Saraf, Manager Operations, Himanshu Apparels.

 The audience comprised mainly of students from the Amity University and other institutes in the region.

National Seminar on GOTS Certification

GOTS will be organising a national seminar for the organic textile industry in Bangladesh on Wednesday, 23rd November 2016 at Hotel Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, Bangladesh. This property is certified according to ‘The Global Hotel Security Standard’. The theme of the conference is ‘Business Case for Sustainability with Organic Textiles’.

The seminar addresses challenges and explores feasible opportunities in the field of organic textiles for Bangladesh textile industry. The August gathering of thought leaders from various walks of sustainability (including compliance, regulation, quality assurance, green chemistry, chemical management) along with media and trade associations shall contemplate on the impact of investing in social and environmental responsibilities on economic success.

Lori Wyman appointed as GOTS Representative in North America

LoriWymanWebGOTS is pleased to announce Lori Wyman as the new Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) Representative for North America. Prior to joining GOTS, Lori was Senior Auditor with Control Union Certifications and has served as an inspector to textile programs for over ten years.
Additionally, she has conducted organic food audits on both farms and factories to the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP), as well as several private standards with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) components nationally and internationally. Lori had previously worked in the membership and marketing departments of the Organic Trade Association (OTA). She is excited to draw upon past partnerships with brands, retailers, regulatory agencies, NGOs, organic certification agencies, and educational textile programs to strengthen the visibility of the GOTS program.

Elif Yarasik appointed as GOTS Representative in Turkey

elifGOTS is pleased to announce Elif Yarasik as the regional representative in Turkey. Turkey is the country with the second most GOTS certified facilities worldwide (469 in 2015) which makes it a very important sourcing market.
Previously Elif has worked in textile both in manufacturing and sourcing industry since 1993, among others for Turkey offices of Nike, Hanesbrands, Next and Puma and for big vertical garment suppliers of Turkey. She has an extensive experience on understanding manufacturing and sourcing side of business in addition to technical side. Her main expertise is the implementation and managing the ecological, environmental, social compliance requirements of textile suppliers as per brand specific requirements which includes global legislations.  Certification management in supply chain in correlation   with buying/sourcing decisions also taking consideration the manufacturing possibilities is another achievement on her carrier. She also has technical experience for process and quality testing, dying and finishing of fabrics addition to project management for sourcing the machineries and process efficiency in dye-houses.
Elif holds a bachelor degree as a Chemist from Middle East Technical University.
